'Hollywood' miniseries was one of the best entertaining series with a strong message that released on Netflix this year. The 'Hollywood' miniseries is a reimagination of the Hollywood industry in the 50s.

Hollywood was not what it is right now. It did evolve with changing ages. But this reimagination gives an exclusive view into the lives of production companies, the star's personal life, and movie making.

But is that all?

The strong messages are on an array of topics. It speaks against gender inequality, racial discrimination, hardships of queer community.

It imagines Hollywood as a place where a woman ran a production company against all the odds to produce a movie about a black girl's dream and her hardships with a black female lead and white male lead (which makes it a mixed-race couple which wasn't supported largely). That's not all the risks taken by the production company! The story is written by a black gay writer and it also stars a gay actor in a supporting role. The female supporting actress is an Asian which is a beautiful homage to Anna may wong, the late actress who was nominated for an oscar.

Can you imagine a more wild mix of persons to be involved in a movie in the late 1950s?

The movie production does go through a lot of hardships. So these are the reasons why the movie was wildly opposed and even leading to protests in certain states where racism was at the peak. Theatre owners threaten to not screen the movie.

But it takes a woman to face all the hurdles to make history to break all rules.

But enough about the imaginative movie within the series!

What are the emotional moments in the series?

  • The moment when Camille(the black female lead) stands up to the guards at the Oscars and gets into the whites-only hotel to get the well-deserved award.

  • The flashback moment when Hattie McDaniel a black actress who got an oscar but had to wait until the announcement to enter the whites-only hotel.

  • The moment when the story of the movie was changed to give hope to all the little black girls out there.

  • The moment when Rock Hudson/ Roy held hands with his boyfriend on the red carpet showing that he wasn't afraid to show the world his sexuality.

  • The moment when Anna may wong finally got the oscar. (in real life the actress never got oscar even though her performance was remarkable)

  • The moment when Rock Hudson/Roy stood up to Henry Willson about his abuse and made him realize his mistake.

  • Finally when Avis Amberg decides to take another risky production decision to produce the very first gay romance movie.

Though all this was a reimagination of how Hollywood could have been if it had been more accepting it does show us the reality about original Hollywood's Golden age. The series can help us see the difficulties that were there in the 1950s for various people just because they were women or black or gay.
