The recent medieval time fantasy series was one of the most anticipated series of this year. Though the series was executed wonderfully, it did lack a few things that would have made it as good as 'The witcher'.
For the first point, the cast did an amazing job of bringing those characters to life. Katherine Langford, Devon Terrell, Gustaf Skarsgard, and Daniel Sharman did a top-notch performance.
I haven't read the 'Cursed' illustrated novel but the story was fresh and to get to see fresh content given the lockdown did feel good.
But even with great depictions of religious oppression, Arthurian legend, point of view of the lady of the lake, the series lacked a few things.
Though the first season of the fantasy web series had a good story, the episodes lacked twists and turns. The story looked dry and straightforward. After the first two episodes, the story became more boring that I couldn't even possibly try to guess things in my head. Because they didn't intrigue as enough to make us guess or form hypotheses about it.
Though Katherine Langford was amazing as Nimue, the main lead was a little less interesting due to the repetitive story arc of the chosen one. Nimue was not unique and us not intrigued by the main character is one of the major reasons why the show seemed less interesting. The same goes for Arthur. Arthur is good, brave and handsome. But he is not very unique.
The only characters I personally felt really intrigued by was the Weeping monk, Squirrel (Percival), and Merlin.
The ending of the series was kind of anti-climatic except for the path of weeping monk.
The series got more interesting towards the final episodes with the revelation of few important twists. But it didn't makeup to boring initial episodes. Also, sister Iris was so irritating. To think that she was the main villain is disappointing and pointless. Yes, we are supposed to hate villains. But sister Iris was not like Cersei Lannister she was more like Joffrey Baratheon. She was not a good villain.
There is still hope for the next season and I won't miss it out. But the script needs to be written more intriguingly so we are immediately drawn to it from the first few episodes.
