A suitable boy is a miniseries on BBC and is based on a book of the same name. I watched two episodes and I'm already so much intrigued by the show. The show is set in the 1950s of newly independent Indian country where there is still the lingering effects of partition and also impacts of zamindars.
It is truly amazing to watch the educated society of newly independent India and their interactions. All the characters are amazing when you see the elements they bring into the story. Mira Nair has used wonderful traditional Indian music in the background which is heavenly to listen to.
The actors are mostly new to be seen but are all well adjusted to playing the characters. The sad reality is that even years after when the story is set in how we could still see certain things unchanged. The politicians playing games with normal people's lives is one such thing. To see decisions being imposed on a girl when it comes to marrying is also something that can be still seen.
But the true wonder of the show is the capture of the scenic places of India in lights of the 1950s. The Ganga is beautiful. The show is promising and waiting for the next episodes is exciting. I wish I had already read the book to talk with more insight. Nevertheless, the show is a must-watch!
More information and the reaction on the show will be in a separate blog after the show ends.
